On Friday 28th February the children at St Cuthbert’s attended an assembly hosted by the lovely Mrs Ricthie (our former Breakfast Club Leader). Mrs Ritchie was super excited to be talking to the children all about St David’s Day- a special time celebrated by her family. She kindly brought daffodils, Welsh cakes and Bara Brith ready to educate us on Welsh traditions. We learnt about the three Welsh emblems, practised the Welsh translation for Good Morning and discovered what was traditionally worn on St David’s day. Mrs Ritchie explained that St David was most known for establishing many religious communities.
After the assembly, the pupils went back to their classes to learn about St David’s Day in more detail. Our EYFS children had a great time exploring and playing with daffodils and testing Welsh cakes. Our KS1 children also tasted Welsh cakes and then explored the Welsh flag. They learnt that the dragon was a symbol of strength and courage. Finally, our KS2 children even got to make and try some Welsh rarebit.
